In Brussels, between the European Parliament and digital innovation, a concrete experience of participation and growth.
A formative and engaging experience saw first-year high school students from the Cambridge IGCSE program participate in the European Camp in Brussels, an educational journey dedicated to active European citizenship and the skills of the future.
The heart of the experience was the simulation of a European Parliament delegation dedicated to a highly topical topic: Digitalization, AI and Algorithmic Management in the Workplace. The students worked as true delegates, each representing a specific European Union Member State and a precise political orientation. This required research, argumentative skills, and a spirit of collaboration, as each position had to be consistent with the interests of the country and the political group represented.
The work culminated in the drafting of a draft recommendation ideally aimed at the European Commission, in which the young people proposed ideas and solutions on how to ethically and effectively manage the introduction of artificial intelligence and algorithmic systems into the world of work.
During their stay, the students also had the opportunity to meet Alberto La Bella, First Counsellor for Permanent Representation to the European Union, who shared his professional experience and offered a concrete look at the functioning of institutions and the work of representation at European level. The meeting allowed the boys to ask questions, compare and better understand the EU’s decision-making dynamics.
Alongside academic activities, students had the opportunity to discover Brussels, visiting the city’s most significant sites and especially the European Parliament, experiencing the workings of the EU institutions up close.
The European Camp thus proved to be a valuable opportunity to develop English language skills, critical thinking, European civic awareness and public speaking skills. An experience that allowed students to feel, for a few days, active and aware European citizens.
